With adults:

REBT focuses on problems that people experience right now. Therefore, lengthy intake interviews are not considered necessary. The aim of the first session is to make an accurate assessment of the problem(s) and come to an agreement about the most pressing problem the person is experiencing. Then the basics of REBT are discussed. The number of sessions, the methods of work and homework assignments are then agreed upon. Homework assignments are considered an essential part of the therapeutic process so that problems are not only resolved emotionally but so that new behavior and thoughts can be put directly into practice.
